Instagram adds ‘Face Tagging’, labels it “Photos of You”

So “#igers” in #Oz, while we were sleeping it seems the Facebook influence over Instagram has prevailed with their latest feature. Dubbed “Photos of You”, the feature simply tags other Instagram users who feature in your latest photos. Watch the video below to understand:

This feature seems long overdue, but I believe will be welcomed by most Instagram users. Of course we will start to see more and more facebook-esque features, but that is usually what happens when a company takes over another. We are just hoping Instagram survives and does not suffer the same fate of Posterous once it was bought by Twitter.

This is what Instagram had to say about the update:

Today, we’re excited to introduce Photos of You and bring you a new way to share and discover stories on Instagram. When you upload a photo to Instagram, you’re now able to add people as easily as you add hashtags. Only you can add people to your photos, so you have control over the images you share. And it doesn’t stop at people—you can add any account on Instagram, whether it’s your best friend, favorite coffee shop or even that adorable dog you follow.

So there you go Instagramers, you can download your app update from Google Play or iTunes now and happy face-tagging! By the way, the “Photos of You” section can be controlled in privacy settings… because everyone has that mate who thinks it funny to tag you in awkward places, or put up hideous photos not for public viewing.
